Thesis:
Smallpox was one of the fatal infectious diseases that affected millions of people around the world. Based on the observation that milkmaids were generally resistant to smallpox, Edward Jenner (an English physician) performed the first vaccination that proved to be a success. Jenner's world-changing discovery led to the eradication of smallpox and to the prevention of many other infectious diseases, saving humanity.
